Okay well now the brand extension draft has come and gone we can take a look at it's results, possible winners and losers and where it leaves the title picture going forward.
Obviously Monday Night Raw made out the better because of the rule that they had three picks to every two for SmackDown due to the length of hours of each show. Though after SmackDown Live went off the air and the Draft was continued on the WWE Network it went to three picks a brand for that final hour. At the end it left poor Heath Slater un-drafted. Expect a storyline where he begs each commish/general mgr for a job on each brand starting this coming week.
Anyway the biggest take away is the fact that seeing these new rosters highlights the need for even more talent to either moved up from NXT, signed from other companies, or brought back to WWE for short runs because these rosters are "thin" to say the least. Also while almost everyone available was drafted, except poor Slater (as mentioned) there are several names that were "missing" due to either being injured or off tv altogether. They are: Undertaker (who doesn't need a brand anymore), Luke Harper, Tyson Kidd, Ryback, Tamina, Nikki Bella. Emma and Rosa Mendes.
I believe WWE did make some errors in drafting certain talents to each show especially with the announcement Monday that a new Cruiserweight Division would be exclusive to Monday Night Raw. Kalisto really should've gone to Raw based upon that criteria along, especially since he mutually split with Sin Cara (Lucha Dragons). Also I agree with Cesaro that he would've been a better fit for SmackDown due to that brand likely giving him better opportunities than Raw.
In the end we could see WWE employee more NFL Draft style ideas like "signing" un-drafted free agents, like the list I provided above once healthy or making a return to tv. You could also see guys like Bobby Roode, Rhyno, Eric Young etc be added to the rosters of each brand in that same way over the course of the weeks and months to come.
Lastly, once BattleGround has past WWE needs to decide/announce how the championship titles will be distributed amongst the two brands. Since the WWE Championship is no longer the WWE World Heavyweight title then a new World Heavyweight Champion will likely be crowned for whichever brand doesn't host the WWE Championship (currently SmackDown). Also it would behoove them to allow the WWE Tag-Team and Women's titles to be contested on both brands since having two sets of champions, like before, would be cumbersome and water down the meaning of each title.
Hopefully this new brand extension brings more excitement back to the WWE product and for all of the talent to grow accordingly. We fans sure need a change away form the same old stale product we've had for some years now.
